The Jingzhou Moat is not only an important part of the ancient city's landscape, but also has important ecological, production, military defense and transportation functions. In ancient times, the moat served as an important barrier outside the city wall, playing a crucial role in defending against enemy invasions and protecting the city from harm. At the same time, as the moat was built along the city wall and connected to external water systems, it served transportation functions in the era when boats were the main means of transportation.
